Reiki: Tell Me More...
Your Questions, Answered
If you’ve never visited a professional Reiki Therapist before, you’re bound to have lots of questions or concerns. Below, you’ll find a list of several frequently asked questions from my patients. Connect with me today for more information.
What happens during a reiki session?
In a full session of about an hour to an hour and a half, you would lie fully clothed on a massage table. You would feel hands laid gently on (in some styles slightly above) your body in a series of positions on the head, abdomen, and back. Legs and arms may also be treated.
What can I expect to feel during a reiki session?
During the session, you might notice a warming sensation in certain areas. In other areas, you might not notice anything at all. Even if you come in with a particular problem area, you may experience a sense of relaxation that affects your whole body. You might even fall asleep during the session!
You could very well notice a reduction of pain in certain places or a clearing of some mental or emotional confusion. Occasionally people notice old symptoms surfacing in what is known as a ‘healing reaction’. This passes quite quickly and is seen as a good sign, indicating something is moving.
How will I feel after a Reiki session?
Every person who tries reiki has a different experience. Your experience from session to session can vary as well. Many people report feeling a sense of calm in their bodies. Others report reduced pain or a clearer mind. Some people say they notice old symptoms resurfacing in a sort of “healing reaction,” but those symptoms pass quickly.
How often would I have to have the treatment to feel a benefit?
It is not uncommon for a practitioner to recommend a series of 4 consecutive sessions as a start to tackling any chronic condition.
Otherwise, or after this, one a week would be a good program. Some benefit is usually felt right away, but of course, long-term conditions are likely to need longer.
Does your mind have to be open to it in order for it to work?
No. But probably someone with a completely closed mind wouldn’t ask for treatments!
Probably those drawn to explore Reiki would have a general sense of there being ‘something more’ than physical matter.
Does reiki involve any spiritual or religious beliefs?
No. Individuals from all kinds of religions and belief systems practice Reiki and get treatments
What conditions respond to reiki?
Many people turn to reiki to relieve stress and anxiety. Practitioners also say that the therapy helps support the body’s natural healing mechanisms. Some healthcare professionals think that reiki helps reduce the side effects of drugs and radiation and may even reduce or eliminate the need for pain medications.
Is there anyone who should avoid reiki?
No. It’s a gentle therapy that’s safe for anyone, including babies and seniors.
